Turo adds a trip fee at checkout that goes to Turo (not the owner). Here are some examples of Turo fees you may be on the hook for before checking out: You might include extras such as a pet fee ($40), child safety seat ($35), unlimited mileage ($80) or prepaid refuel ($75).

Then, Turo adds standard protection for $12 by default (though you can decline damage protection). In this example, there’s a mandatory $15 trip fee. The total cost to rent on Turo might balloon once extra fees kick in.Ī 10-hour rental advertised at $30 per day can easily become twice that. Many owners offer discounts for longer trips, and some offer discounts to guests who book at least a week in advance. Sometimes they can be cheaper than traditional rental cars because car owners set the prices. Traditional car rental prices are especially high compared to pre-pandemic times, but Turo prices are more variable. Here are some of the times you might consider booking with Turo, and what to look out for. The global car sharing market surpassed $2 billion in value in 2020 and is expected to grow 20% annually from 2021 to 2027, acccording to July 2021 data from market researcher Global Market Insights.īut while Turo can provide an excellent rental car alternative, it’s not necessarily better. Peer-to-peer car sharing platforms, meanwhile, have continued to grow in popularity. Bureau of Labor Statistics, January 2023 car rental prices were up 36% versus January 2020, the last comparable month before COVID lockdowns in the U.S. Thank you commenters for teaching me about including the transponder in the listing/messages.The story of rental cars experiencing massive price increases since the pandemic continues. I learned this after I had this experience but I still left the guest a 3 star review describing that although they were very communicative they returned the car smelling like smoke. It's better to wait towards the end of the 10 days to completely asses the trip and resolve any issues and have that be a part of the review. I learned from a video by Saimah's Experience to not post your review of the guest ASAP. Turo said that initially they think only a repair is necessary but if Safelite comes out and assess it to be a replacement it will still be covered by Turo. I opted for Safelite to make this as easy as possible. They gave me the option to use my own service provider of choice and invoice Turo or use Safelite which already has Turo billing on hand.

This process took them about 48 hours.Ĭlaims also got back to me and since I had the 60% protection plan I don't have to pay anything out of pocket for the windshield repair.

During the reimbursement thread I sent Turo photos of my car with license plate visible and transponder visible in windshield, a photo of the transponder showing the ID, and a PDF of the tolls during the trip showing the transponder ID. I'll also be including a photo of the transponder in the trip photos at check-in. They didn't mention anything about putting the transponder number in the listing or in messages but as the comments below have shared, I will be explicitly stating that guests are responsible for tolls matching my plates and my trasponder ID. Turo has approved the reimbursement in its entirety. Hope to hear back from Turo and read your comments. I'm also hopeful they cover the lost income from me having to cancel the following trip. The scratch is inside the front windshield and is just about 3 inches so they better cover me.

I'm on the 60% plan so I have the wear and tear coverage. To me, my photos are sufficient but until Turo send me the reimbursements fees and claim check I'm doubtful. I'm a new host and this guest is denying everything left and right.

I'm not very hopeful Turo is going to follow through on this one. The best I could do is take a picture of my car with the license plate and transponder visible and another close up of the transponder showing the corresponding ID with the activity log.ĭefinitely frustrated and actually cancelled a trip for the following morning. If I didn't have the transponder then the toll history would use the license plate from the tollway cameras. The license plate field is actually blank because the toll prioritizes transponder before plate. What shows up in my activity is the transponder number. No where in I-Pass does it link your cars license plate to the transponder. They also scratched my windshield leading me to file a claim.ĭespite me submitting screenshots of my I-Pass app showing date, time, toll, and cost to the trip photos AND to the reimbursement email they sent me, Turo sent another email asking for a photo of my cars license plate? But here's the problem. First off, this guest smoked in my car and is trying to dispute smoke smell removal fee, cleaning fee (left used masks, clothes in the car, and marked the headliner/visors with makeup), refueling inconvenience fee, and the total of $21 in tolls they racked up.
